Product Description

Silica gel Desiccant

The most commonly used desiccant in the pharmaceutical and nutraceutical industry is silica gel. This partially dehydrated form of polymeric colloidal silicic acid has a unique structure, enabling it to adsorb a wide variety of chemical substances. Silica gel is most adsorbent with water – adsorbing up to 40 percent of its weight in water, under the right conditions . It should be noted that, much like clay, some of this adsorbed water will be released as temperatures begin to rise, and packaging that uses a silica gel desiccant should be stored in a cool

location. Much of silica gel’s popularity is due to its non-corrosive, non-toxic nature – having first received U.S. government approval for use in food and drug packaging.

Silica gel is a high-activity absorbent with the capability of absorbing more than 30% of its own weight. Its advantages over other desiccant media are:

1. Chemical inertness--- only affected by hydrofluoric acid and strong alkali

2. Ease of use in sachet form and range of sizes available

3. Greater efficiency per unit weight

Silica gel is the only desiccant which can contact with pharmaceuticals and food by FDA approval. Besides, our packing material can prevent silica gel from leaking and contamination so as to keep our products more safer and healthier.
